Happy Take 5 Monday: 1 Kindness Quote, 1 Gratitude Thought, 1 Kindness Habit Idea, 1 Kind Act, and 1 Question for you to consider this week…
1 Kindness Quote:
“Compliment people. Magnify their strengths, not their weaknesses.”
~ Anonymous
1 Gratitude Thought:
“I am grateful for having had a family to surround me as I grew up. It’s only now that I’m older that I realize that not everyone has this in their life.”
1 Kindness Habit Idea…backed by science 🧪:
You can train your brain to be more positive (even if you’re a pessimist!) and that can make you more successful. Researchers have proven that when we focus on something, we begin to manifest and notice more of that in our life.
Here’s one way to start: Give Compliments…the waitress who brought your food with a smile, the office assistant who successfully manages a huge workload, the FedEx driver who brought your package to the door, the teenager who held the door for you….thank them. Complimenting is an easy way to spread kindness and a super easy way to start shaping your positive behavior.
1 Kind Act….Jimmy Wayne and the Paper Angels
Jimmy Wayne spent his childhood in and out of foster homes or on the street, while his mother was in and out of prison. His father had disappeared. When he was 14, his social worker got Jimmy a paper angel on the Salvation Army Paper Angel Christmas tree. An anonymous donor gave him a guitar for Christmas. It changed his life.
Today, at age 49, Jimmy is a Nashville star. He has performed at the Grand Ole Opry 224 times. He is a NY Times bestselling author, a film producer,(watch the trailer) and he has honorary doctoral degrees from William Woods University and Cal State University San Marcos. In 2010, he walked 1,660 miles from Nashville to Phoenix to raise awareness for the plight of foster children and help pass legislation to raise the maximum age of kids in foster care from 18 to 21.
He credits his fame, fortune….his entire life….to one act of kindness when he was a Paper Angel on a Christmas tree.
(Dolly Parton writes about Jimmy’s best seller, Walk to Beautiful: The Power of Love and a Homeless Kid Who Found the Way…..”it reads like a movie to me and, if so, I’ll be the first one in a seat to see it.”)
Listen to Paper Angel…
1 Kindness Question for you:
As you look back on this year, what will you remember as the most happy times you had?
Check out our new Gift and Book Program
Kindness Magnet launched in April, 2021 and has become tremendously popular. I guess we all need a little more kindness in this world! I have been looking for additional ways to help spread kindness. Next week I am enthusiastically starting our new Gift and Book Program. I hope you’ll check it out! I’d love to know what you think and get your ideas!
May your week be filled with kindness. 💜
Very sweet! 100% agree that you can train your brain to be more positive. It's about changing your perspective:
"Happiness, it seems, is all about perspective. For many, “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence,” but if they could only see what others see, and if they could enjoy how nice they really do have it, life would most certainly be more pleasant and happier.
Here are a few movies where a change of perspective means being able to appreciate, and be truly grateful for, unique and imperfect—but still lovely—lives:"
