Boy, do I know that one. The Field Guide up and said, "This ain't going the way it should." I said, "So what now?" It said, "I dunno ... make it up." So here I sit, makin' it up. Sometimes it's like slogging through mud blindfolded. ... But, what fun, huh? Just keep swimmin' as Dory says.
I like to think of trying new things as taking a walk down an unknown corridor with many doors on either side along the way. As you get near each one it cracks open a bit so you can just barely peek inside, but you can't quite make out what's on the other side.....unless you open it. Sometimes you want to go inside and sometimes you want to try another door. I don't think the corridor or the doors ever end.
I remember you writing about the gratitude path. I so enjoyed that. And now you are going along a different, unknown path. Exciting. Terrifying. And hopefully fun.
I'm around, if you'd like to share more about what you're finding inside your Field Guide Door. You have obviously put a lot of thought and work into what you are creating. I believe part of the reason we are all finding each other on Substack is to be a helpful community.
Thanks, Heather ... love the corridor with many doors metaphor ... and would love to brainstorm together at some point. Right now, a door has opened to a room all filled with sunlight ... maybe this is the one, I think. We'll see. It is terrifying ... and fun. The challenge, of course, is to find a path that is fun for me and useful to readers. Looking forward to seeing your new direction.
I can tel you are very excited about this makeover, Heather! I can't wait to see what you come up with. I just love this new sparkling personality you are revealing to us - especially in the After 21 Club. A side of you we hadn't necessarily seen before. It is as if you have turned back the clock. Will you keep the After 21 club going while you work on the makeover?
Thanks, Sharron. I have that Yippee Ki Yay feeling about it most of the time....with occasional 'wtf are you doing' moments. I suspect you know what I mean!
After 21 Club is a weirdly stress-reliever thing, like those Chinese Baoding Balls but with words. I have a chiming pair of panda ones. Gotta keep 'em rolling.
Life gave me a makeover for free. It’s called dad bod. Also, when it comes to a makeover haircut for a guy, the difference between a good one and a bad one is three days.
Oh, hahahaha. Except for the Goldie part....she IS awesome!
It's great to see Kermit sunning himself on the beach ;)
I could do with a makeover myself, literally!
Ditto!
Call it a make-over, transformation, re-invention, or just out-with-the-old-in-with-the-new ... have a great time and go for what calls you!
Thanks, Joyce. One moment I'm high fiving myself for trying this....the next I'm thinking "What the heck"!

Hi.
Haha. I cut my husband's hair and you are so right. Three days fixes a lot of my sins. :-)
