Your communication advice is good for 'in person' too!

I'm sorry about the employee mishap - we humans all have a knack for messing up from time to time.

Happy Tuesday, Mitch!

Here lies my pet skunk Hal

If you thought he smelled before

You ought to smell him now.

Ha Ha! I would be arrested for skunkduggery... but it might just be worth it. See my response to Jill's comment below. Grrrrrr. 🦨

Love "Things aren't as black and white as they seem." Very good play on words given the topic!

We had our dog get skunked years ago and it was traumatizing to all of us (hubbie, dog, kids). We desmellified Nemo, using soap, hydrogen peroxide etc but everytime it rained, we could smell the awful fragrance of those damn skunks come through his fur.

Bottom line: I hate skunks (less than I hate grubs probably), and I would definitely evict them, but of course that leaves the grub problem. And while I hate skunks, I loved this piece.

Poor Nemo. That skunk smell is soooo strong!

As an aside, yesterday morning I woke up to find 7 daylily transplants that had been turned upside down. Seven! So last night I put clear plastic domes over them. It's still dark out here (5:24am as I am writing) so I'm curious to see if Mr. Pepe respected them. The battle wages on!

Thank you for your comment. 💚

Last fall, a neighbor was battling a skunk, finally caught it in a live trap, and ask if I would transport it in the back of my truck. When I arrived to collect it, she had it covered with an old moving blanket to contain any stray barrages, and off we went to it’s carefully chosen new home in a rustic McMansion development that caters to the better sort. We thought the skunk would be happiest there, among those urbanites who long for an authentic mountain life experience.

Excellent choice.

We’ve had our share here this fall, but I find that after a few days when the aroma has died down a bit, the smell is suspiciously similar to walking by a Starbucks.

En France we have nocturnal explorers too ... oh deer, and what a boar. The deer are dainty, little hoof invasions hunting for heaven knows what. The boar ... yep, as clumsy as you'd imagine. We should probably just signpost them to a space we want dug over ready for planting and 'hey presto'. We're just letting them get on with it ... I guess they were here first. Good luck with your neighbours!

We have similar neighbors! Our 'oh deer' are mule deer. These friends love to feast on our bluebells. We also have javelina, similar to your boar. They look like toaster ovens with fur and don't smell much better than the skunks.

Lovely idea to just have them dig up the area for next year's plantings!

Although they wreak havoc on our plants, we are grateful to see them and happy they are sharing their space with us.

Is it lovely in France this time of year?

Last year was sunnier and warmer than this. It has a real Autumn feel all of a sudden, and it is wet but we had a dry Summer so the ground (and the water table) needs it. The long cycling pants are out and we're layering up!

In the Spring, the deer love the dandelions we allow to run amok in our meadow space. So nice to see them emerge from the woodlands. We keep our distance from the boar but it is quite the thing when we do see them.

We are overrun by elk in the spring. They eat everything we plant, so I had this great idea to sell elk seeds on eBay to recoup some of our costs. So far, I’ve sold exactly zero elk seeds.

Too funny! Skunks at least give back by eating the slimy grubs. I daily deal with a murder of crows- over 100 of them who sit and peck on my roof before sunset on their way to roost AND a scurry of squirrels who dig up my potted plants to bury their peanuts and then come back every day to dig them up again to make sure they are still there! A never ending battle. I use sprinkles of "rodent repellent" which smells worse than skunks. I do wish my neighbor would stop feeding peanuts to those little critters. Beautifully written story, Heather. I feel your pain. ha ha ha

Well I can safely say I have ZERO skunk stories. Hallelujah for that. I'd be terrified to have a whole family of them living in my yard because there's no way my dog would leave that alone 😂

Oooo, that would be a very stinky situation. Glad you don't have them. Actually, I think they all live in my yard. 😁

I don't have anything in my yard because I don't have a yard lol. I wish I could afford a home with a yard...but alas...I'm in a condo.
